Are you working Ergonomically?
To work ergonomically at a computer is to work comfortably and productively.
That, in turn, depends on equipment adjustability and body movement.
Adjustability in the equipment that you use - your desk, keyboard, copy holder, monitor, and light - is important to allow the worker to adjust the equipment position to comfortably fit their predominant work posture.
Movement in your body is important because no matter how adjustable the equipment is - if your posture remains static for many hours at a time, you will likely begin to feel uncomfortable. Ergonomists have long recommended that computer workers change their working postures frequently throughout the day.
At ISE, we have designed and built computer accessories that provide superior adjustability to suit the wide range of individual work postures, and posture changes during the work day. These postures have been identified by ANSI/HFES 100-2007 Human Factors Engineering of Computer Workstations as Reference Postures.
Common postures range from reclined sitting (often used by hunt-and-peck typists, pregnant women, and male workers), to semi-reclined sitting (the Grandjean posture), to upright sitting (often used by female workers), to standing.
For example, the Leader Keyboard System has a unique adjustment that allows the user to set the correct platform angle that is recommended when sitting in a reclined posture. The correct angle adjustment is displayed on a highly intuitive position indicator placed directly in front of the user.
Other ISE computer accessories (such as height adjustable desks, flat panel monitor arms, copy holders, cpu holders, footrests, and lights) all contribute to help make the work environment fit the individual.
Once these tools are in place within the computer workstation, the worker can change work postures and equipment position frequently and comfortably within their neutral range of movement.
The benefits that accrue to the organization from working ergonomically are numerous:
- Greater individual comfort that results in higher quality and productivity
- Higher morale, job satisfaction, and employee retention
- Lower costs of recruiting, training, and lost output
- Fewer injuries and less sick time
- Reduction in employee benefit costs to treat injuries.
ISE offers the broadest selection of high quality computer accessories in the industry.
