Do both monitors have to be the same size and shape to work with this system?

Answer:

No, as long as both the monitors follow the weight and size restrictions (each monitor should weigh 4.5-10 lbs and be less then or equal to 24" in screen size), they both can be different size, make and model. However it is preferable to have both the monitors same size and model for the following reasons - 1) Better aesthetics - You workstation will look better with uniform size and model of both the monitors 2) Better functionality - Monitors of same size, make and model will have the same resolution, which makes it easier for the cursor to move smoothly between the two screens. Absence of same resolution can sometimes make the cursor stick towards the lower end of the monitors.

I would like to purchase either an Ergotron 33-344-200 HD or the 33-342-200 LD. My current monitor is a ViewSonic VS2265wm (model VS12394), which I can see will work with the LD model 33-342-200. But in future I will probably end up with a larger monitor so I am thinking that I would be better off buying the HD model 33-344-200. Question is will my current monitor work with the HD model 33-344-200.

Your current monitor ViewSonic VS2265wm weighs 7.68 lbs without the stand. It will work with the 33-342-200 but it cannot work with the 33-344-200 because the minimum weight of a monitor to be compatible with the 33-344-200 is 16 lbs. So you have the choice of getting a bigger monitor now and then you can purchase the 33-344-200 or if you buy the 33-342-200 and want to upgrade later to a bigger monitor, the weight of that new monitor cannot exceed 16lbs. The wrist rest is removable but not recommended as it is screwed into the tray and removing it would expose screw holes and a metal channel where the wrist rest is attached.

However the hole pattern on the two VESA plates of this arm is 100 x 100 mm & 75 x 75 mm and you would need to get the VESA Adapter Kit so that the 200x100 VESA hole pattern can fit with the 100x100 hole pattern. Please consider that the weight of this VESA Adapter Kit is 1.8 lbs while calculating the compatibility of your monitors with this arm.

The only way that you can make it work is to purchase an arm for the keyboard tray that you have. Please see “option 2”, and choose a track that would be most suitable for you. The main factor is determining the clearance space that you have under your desk. Please measure how much clearance you have under your desk and based on that you can choose between 17” or 22” track. The 22” track will enable you to fully retract your keyboard tray under the desk, whereas, the 17” track will have the keyboard tray stick out by few inches.
